Linux photographer saying hello!

First of all, I hope this introductory post is in the right place…

Despite being a linux amateur photographer for many years, I only just came across this site today.
It looks a very useful resource, full of lots of information relating to linux photography software, so I have signed up to the site as it looks a good way to keep in touch with fellow open source photography / image editing fans!

I’m based in Fife, on the east coast of Central Scotland.

Anyway my main interests are nature / landscape photography, specialising in “Tiny Planets” using Hugin panorama editor, and my Pentax K100D dslr with Sigma 10-20mm lens, and nodal ninja 3 panorama head. I’ll probably upload some of my most recent work later on.

Currently I’m running Linux Mint 18.1 I’ve tried other distros, but I seem to always end up falling back on Linux Mint. Seems to just work well for me!

So, here I am, saying hello!

Howdy and welcome! I believe @LightSweep is from around your neck of the woods as well (I wanna say Cumbria or thereabouts?). Looking forward to seeing some work.

He had written these two articles for the site previously:

Hello and welcome!

Thanks for the replies @paperdigits and @patdavid  Those videos which @LightSweep made are very interesting, particularly the Basic Landscape Exposure Blending with Gimp & G’MIC.

I’m certainly glad to have found this site, as it very informative

@Brian_Innes A warm welcome from further down south, close to the Derbyshire Dales
Been Linux only for about 10 years and returning to photography about 4 years ago then finding darktable I’ve never looked back.

Keith.

Welcome Brian

I find the forum and accompanying main site so useful.

I use Ubuntu , I am not that geeky re Linux, but love the fact that as photographers we all collaborate together independent of big PLC’s and world brands.

Reminds me somewhat of a “cooperative model” way or working.

Regards

Phil

Welcome aboard @Brian_Innes! Linux photographer here as well from Ontario, Canada. Glad you found this place; I myself only found it not long ago and I’m very glad I did. You’ll find it’s interesting to find out about the most cutting edge feature developments they’re making, as well as testing. For example they just finished version 5 of RawTherapee.

I too prefer Hugin for panoramas and would love to see some of your work posted

Welcome, Brian. This site is a great resource, and I think it is increasingly becoming the “go to” site for open source photography. The key people for a lot of the products are regulars here.

@stefan.chirila Good to know there are other Ontarians here.

@elGordo  Kitchener/Waterloo. If ever around and wanna organize a photo walk let me know in advance and maybe we can throw something together. At the very least I know a few good Cafes and Pubs.

@stefan.chirila Sounds good. I’m in Toronto.

@stefan.chirila We might take you up on a photo walk, we plan on visiting from the UK in 2019.
We have family in Cambridge and Kitchener.
Trouble is they aren’t getting any younger,
So hopefully :grinning:

@ukbanko wow nice! Definitely! drop me a line stefan.chirila@gmail.com and remind me of this in case I forget by then and am wondering who is emailing me from the UK :stuck_out_tongue:
