rawtherapee doesn't have the lens i'm using in it's list.

i have 5.3 version of rawtherapee.
i shoot on af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g vr.
when i apply distortion correction to my picture in becomes blurry, so i manually search for my lens profile on the list and it’s not there. the lens profile rawtherapee chooses for me is different from mine.
what do i do?

also what does the lcp file do?

raw file DSC_1012.NEF (21.6 MB)

Hey

Upload a sample raw file so we can take a look instead of guessing.

done

what if i use this instead of lensfun, do i still have to select the correct profile?

Where did you upload this sample to?

hi

you can write a dynamic profile rule and have the DCP loaded automatically. more info on rawpedia and here:

The blurriness is explained in RawPedia.

Your lens is there (I’m using an old version of the lensfun database, the Windows builds use a newer one), and it does get auto-detected, so I’m not clear on what you’re doing or what the problem really is.

What does the “Lens” combobox say when you click on “Auto-matched”?

it says what is says on the picture.
my lens is af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g vr. this one says “af-s dx vr nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g II”

Your image’s metadata shown using

Exiv2 0.26:

Exif.Nikon3.LensType Byte 1 D G VR
Exif.Nikon3.Lens Rational 4 18-55mm F3.5-5.6
Exif.NikonLd3.LensIDNumber Byte 1 Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II

ExifTool 10.69:

-Composite:LensID=AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II
-Composite:LensSpec=18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR

Wikipedia

Nikon first introduced the lens in 2005 and has provided three subsequent updates. Following are the four variants as of 2014:
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED, released in 2005
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II, released in 2006.
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, released in 2007.
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II, released in 2014.

So either both ExifTool and Exiv2 are wrong, in which case you should report a bug to both ExifTool and Exiv2, or you are wrong about which model of lens you have.

what do i press to upload it?

@meadowlark
Running Rawtherapee 5.3 on Windows 10.

  • Your lens is correctly recognised by Lensfun as

NiKON AF-S DX VR Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G II
(Note that the order of fields in the lens name does’nt matter)

As far as I can see, the Lensfun distortion processing is correct.

As all cameras/lenses combinations don’t exist, you have to choose a camera with same crop factor. Here I used

NIKON D300 (Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR II) - RAW.lcp

Crop factors
D300: 1.52
D5200: 1.53

The corrections made with both methods are practically identical.
Thus I cannot reproduce your problem.

You just drag you file onto the editing window or use the upload button to attach it
