I’ve so enjoyed the tutorials that you have offered us. They have been both educational and interesting, a great help in expanding knowledge base on these subjects, for many individuals. I have donated to your cause and will again when finances allow. Thanks so much for your effort, time, and sharing your knowledge.

This is a great classic, and it really looks nice and readable on pixels.us. The only issue I have is with the “Click the image to…” feature, that does not work on any of my browsers under OSX (tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome). Instead, the image is shown on a darker background, like the other images that have no “click” feature.

I’ll try under linux later today…

You had me worried for a moment there, then I realized that you’re reading it here on discuss.pixls.us instead of the website. The click-to-compare feature won’t work at the moment here on discuss, only on the main post:

You are absolutely right! Sorry for the false alarm…

Pat,

I am trying to do the above step-by-step (RT part only), however, your final WB Temperature/Tint settings is something I can not understand - my result is visually completely different and I have to significantly change them to match the skin tones.

My RT version is 5.1 and my monitor is EIZO 2456 (sRGB).
Please share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

@hobo have you calibrated your monitor recently? sRBG is your working space?

Well, I was busy thinking about the difference in monitors as well!

My monitor is brand-new and factory-calibrated.
What I can see: Color Mode: sRGB, Temperature = 6500K.

Nice catch. I don’t know what happened there, but those setting are way off in RT 5.1. (I just ran back through them to check). The main takeaway there was to sample the WB setting from the gray wall behind Mairi on the right, which yields these values in RT 5.1:

See if those values look a little better for you.

I’m too lazy to go back and check if that makes sense in an older RT right now. I’ll go back through and update the page, though. Thanks for the heads up!

Pat,

You are fantastic!

Exactly - this is very close to what I have stopped with (5600/1.2). It an interesting fact - keeping in mind the RAW contest here. If the basic RT settings are version-specific, good to know!

PS … Your article was a great exercise for me (sure not only for me) - please continue! Have you tried RT Wavelet instead of GIMP Wavelet e.g. for the same portrait?

A quick question: what was your camera (… lens …) profile for RT?
I have an Oly E-M5 of 2012, not sure that RT 5.1 has a good profile for it.

I’ve got an E-M5 also (same model as you). I don’t think I bothered with an LCP for this combination and shot. I am notoriously lazy in bothering with LCP and distortion correction unless it’s really bad or distracting. (I kind of like the slightly fishy distortion of un-corrected raws on the wide end of this kit for some reason). In this case I was shooting at 50mm, so the distortion was minimized on the subject…

If you don’t think it’s very good, you can always help out by making a better one and sharing it…

Yes, I have tried to do it using my Adobe DNG installed. However, I do not see any profiles in the suggested folders (and in any other folders). The only idea I now have is that this procedure is not fully correct/complete or both.
