19 seconds to log in?

Am I doing something wrong, or does it really take 19 seconds
to log on to pixls.us?

No, it shouldn’t take this long. I’ll investigate this afternoon and see if something is off. Thanks for the heads up!

Also - how are you logging in?

I surf to discuss.pixls.us.
Click Log in.
Enter user name and pwd.
Clock Log In
Then I wait

I just got a chance to sit down and test this, and I can’t seem to replicate the problem.

I log out, and attempt to log back in using my username + password. It’s pretty quick (a few seconds).

Is this still a problem for you? Are you able to test it by using an OAuth with your account and see if it’s still happening?

I find that my initial visit since closing the tab is always the slowest, it takes a while to load some resources that otherwise get cached. Both on desktop and mobile.

I haven’t tried logging out and back in though, this is with me staying logged in all the time.

It’s only as long as 10 or 15 though, usually 5 to 7 seconds or so.

I just tested again and can see a slightly longer time on FF vs. Chrome (but it’s not as bad as described for me for some reason):

Chrome:

Firefox:

Thanks for your experiments
Please note that this is not a very large problem, just an annoyance.
I am running Win 7/FF, set at paranoid levels.
Agree: if I am in, logout and then login again, it is much, much faster.

I just tried in FF on Win7 as well and once it took some time as you’ve indicated. I haven’t gotten it to do it again just yet, but I’m investigating.

As for myself:
On Windows 7 (64 bit)
Firefox (tried every new version this past year)
CPU Intel I7
Ram 8 gb

Pixl.us is extremely slow when I try to open its web-page.
I have bookmarked the pixl.us forum web-page (discuss.pixls.us
) and It always takes a lot for Firefox to open it.
Actually, no other web-page is so slow to load for me with my computer…

Once you are logged on, is the site still slow? Or is it just the initial logging in as @Claes has reported?

Hello Pat,

Usually, for me, it takes a lot for the inital logging in (Firefox 46.0.1 - Windows 7).
Afterwards, usually, it is much faster.

This being said, THANKS a lot for this forum : it IS extremely appreciated

More clues:
tested to log in onto discuss.pixls.us from IE on another Win 7/64-bit machine.
Waiting time: about a second or so!
Hm… I wonder what FF is up to. Perhaps it is my paranoid FF settings?

I didnt count the time on my browser(firefox) in Ubuntu.
But it definitely takes most of the times more than 10sec… At least it feels like it.

On the very similar Natron forum it take also a long time to log in.
https://forum.natron.fr/

I cant test this at the moment, because I am using a live stick with Ubuntu Mate.
Everytime I start the computer, I have to copy my Bookmarks were I am already logged in.

Maybe some Firefox addons / adblock extensions take some time.

Paranoid mode in FF probably isn’t caching any JavaScript, so you’re reloading everything every time you log in. Can you try without paranoid mode?

@paperdigits But the IE machine, where the login took 1 or 2 seconds, had never seen discuss.pixls.us before, so it had no previously cached code/script to fall back on.

In a short while I’ll relax my FF settings & clock login anew.

I use Firefox private browsing a lot, and when I do ā€œappā€ websites always take longer to load. Going back to regular browsing mode speeds things up a lot.

Discoveries so far:

Tracker:
google.analytics is blocked by FF.

Sites called:
pixls.us
fonts.googleapis.com
gstatic.com

You could try with a second, fresh, ā€œdummyā€ firefox profile without the paranoia settings. You can start the profile manager with ā€˜firefox -P’.

I just tried on FF/Ubuntu 15.10 and it took a moment, but only a few seconds really at most (maybe 5?). Could you let me know what type of ā€œparanoidā€ settings you have turned on? Is it an extension? (I’m super sorry for the slow response! :frowning: ).

Morning!

I believe I have managed to pinpoint the problem! I started from the top, disabling every single FF setting, one at a time, then removed all caches, restarted Win 7/64-bit and logged in to discuss.pixls.us again after each change.

The culprit turned out to be Security | Block reported web forgeries.

  • When unticked, login just took about two seconds.
  • When ticked, login needs about 19 seconds (but if you just logout and login again, login is fast).

This gave me ammunition for a Google search, and it seems to be a semi-known Mozilla bug: 1153674 - Website are loading/connecting slow and here is a quote from the comments there: When I disable ā€œBlock reported attack sitesā€ and ā€œBlock reported web forgeriesā€ in Options/Security, everything works normally. (Everything goes a lot faster on other sites to.)

The same behaviour occurs in Ubuntu 15.10/FF and Ubuntu 16.04/FF.

Actually, I do not believe that pixls.us is a ā€œreported web forgeriā€, I believe there is something else behind…
