5.0.1 Why do exported JPG's have XMP files generated?

When I export an edited RAW file, it produces (correctly) a JPG file. But it also generates an XMP file as well. Why?

Is this a bug or a feature? Is there a way to prevent the XMP file from being produced?

Cancel that. Brain fart!
I wasn’t paying attention. No problem here (except between the ears!)

Brain fart aside. It is possible to set create XMP file to never if you want to depend upon the database recording your editing steps alone. Personally I like the xmp files but LR users would only store their edits in the database. If the LR database crashes “good luck”.
