DT 5.1
I am unsure which program you use, but in DT I find two instances of noise (profiled) help and then I applied a details threshold for sharpening to avoid sharpening noise. I then use a preset I have made in the contrast equalizer module for further denoising that includes a negative details threshold value to protect details from softening due to the extra denoising.

I probably worked harder at the noise than I normally would because that was the challenge. The noise was only visible because I was pixel peaking at 100%.

I used RawTherapee and I must admit, I worked also harder at the noise. I wanted to see the maximum of this combination I could get.

dt 5.0.1

Hi Uli, I am waiting for AgX to turn up in the weekly windows builds. It looks an interesting option in your hands.

If you follow the AgX thread, you can see that there are already windows builds. So if you want to have some fun, have a look and enjoy a very mighty tool wich gets better and better. Thanx to @kofa

Not yet ready for productivity, at least if you want to have persistent edits, anyway already by far my most beloved tone mapper.

Training my RawTherapee skills -it took a while to get there:

By the way, is there a possibility in RawTherapee to scale the size of the exported jpg.

Uli, I am not sure, if I understand your problem, but under the Transform tab, there are mighty Resize & Framing options, with excellent Post-Resize Sharpening possibilities!

@mlenard, you understood the problem and I’m an idiot. :joy:
I’m not used to RT anymore and in the past, when I used RT more, I never needed a scaling option. A lame excuse I know.

I just expected the scaling option to be where the export happens (just like on dt), I should have come myself to the idea to search for scaling at the modules. :flushed:

Thanx for pointing me in the right direction

Please, believe me, one of the two of us is the i-word, and it is not you. I love your interpretations, go on!

In that case I am definitely an idiot (and I have no clue why you should be one), because it didn’t came to my mind to search on the modules. Instead I searched on export function, in settings and I don’t tell you where else

Thank you for helping me out and for your kind words. Rest assured, that you will see more of my interpretations, it’s a joy to to be around with you all and learn new stuff.

Sorry, Uli, I am just having that evening, when das Sein looks just like a tiny disturbance in das Nichts. Since nothing is perfect, not even the damn das Nichts.
Let us make interpretations, art is good, so is love and common kindness! “Noise” is not evil, far from this, luckilly.

Can you please share what you did do?

GIMP:

Resized to 1500x1000.

Spread the histogram with Levels.

Duplicated layer; made a mask with Threshold; applied mucho USM to the masked bird and applied a smidgeon of reddish hue to the bird.

Inverted the mask and toned down the cobbles.

Exported as JPEG 4:2:0
