A summer day...in the shade

In this photograph, I get very different results every time I develop it.
I would like to see other points of view…
You help me?

I’m only seeing the .xmp file. No raw file is there.

It being a high contrast image, and my being a fan of B&W, I pulled this in a slightly different direction…

  • Brightened the sky and its reflection in water
  • Brought out the distant mountains (that’s what they are, right?)
  • Pushed the sand back a bit to contrast with water above/below
  • Increased contrast among the layers of foliage for depth
  • Cropped to 16:9 for a more panoramic feel

In doing so, I think it preserves the water and its various reflections as the primary draw of the image.

Looks like it was a lovely August day in the sun. Thanks for the chance to enjoy this shot.

The image is of high contrast, and so was the day, since while we were enjoying nature, not far from there, there was a fire.
The smoke from that fire is precisely what you see above the mountains in the background.

@dqpcoxeas Ha! So I brought out the natural beauty of the distant air pollution (and its reflection). :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

A second attempt at this image. My original idea was to darken the surroundings so that they form a frame around the sand and the people. This time I have taken it a little farther. I also warmed the colour of the sand. Done in GIMP. I see now that others have had the same idea!

Hmm…the advantage of a raw file.

I have done a quick edit in DT. However, the cameras exposure was skewed to the left leaving the shadows underexposed and without detail so I felt limited in what I could do with the shadows. I recommend for best editing start with a well exposed shot and avoid clipping of the shadows or the highlights. I use auto exposure bracketing to improve my success rate.
