I still have my Canon Epoca Caption 35mm, but the specialised battery, film, processing … it’s not really budget-friendly these days.

But that’s the point! When you get the itch for shooting film, you just waste money on film, development, etc, not getting an actual film camera + lenses. Eg a roll of Ilford HP15 + development + scanning is about 25–30 EUR where I live (depending on whether I want to pretend that I get something extra by high-res scans, etc).

Quick and relatively cheap cure for GAS.

(Some may find this expensive. That may be, but note that a single visit to mental health specialist is 2–3x this price and you may have to wait a bit. Maybe national health insurance systems should cover this, eg you visit your GP who, after going through a “GAS checklist”, can prescribe a subsidized roll of film you pick up at the pharmacy, etc).

Lol I never even get to the point of buying the film. Every so often I think I should shoot some film, I look at the price of film and then go “omg no”

Hi there, old timer here. A couple points from my very distant past.
The analog tone reproduction had 4 quadrants, starting with the dynamic range of the subject, the response curve of the film, followed by a flare factor, and finally the response curve of the print media.

The B&W Zone System aimed to match the dynamic range of the subject to the response of the negative material, to insure that enough exposure was given to render detail in the shadows, and to use an adjusted development time to place the detailed highlights in their proper position.

The color processes did not allow for this in any significant way, so the choice of film and proper lighting was key to getting successful results. We used to use some masking techniques to adjust contrast, but it was a lengthy process.
