Are there any plans for 4.3 release? There are a lot iterations (> 500) in the current development branch after 4.2. And a lot of new features (wavelets, retinex). Some systems (like FreeBSD) don’t package development versions, so the last one there is 4.2 which is pretty old.
In that case why don’t you try to compile it yourself from Git sources?
This is the way i use RT at home because Debian also are lagging behind with their releases even if i am using the Testing/Unstable branch.
My usual way is to check for updates once a week then pull the updates via Git and then recompile.
Of course we want to release a 4.3, but the code is not ready for a release yet.
As virosh wrote, compile it yourself - it’s easy in Linux.

On Linux I always build RT from sources. But on FreeBSD some porting is required. Would be nice to have an official release.
Sure it is and I do it myself, but I still like to stick with the repo versions whenever possible when I do not participate in development. And the usual policy (at least at debian) is to create new packages when new upstream releases appear, otherwise only bugfixes get updates. I guess many other users will not compile it due to lack of knowledge/time/…, so I think the userbase might increase if you did more frequent releases (as everyone gets newer/better features). There are more recent windows/mac versions than 4.2 and at 4.0.x there were minor releases, why not do a such release generally now and then when it makes sense even though you do not feel like it is not yet ready for a major release. I do not know much about software development so I might underestimate the effort needed for this, so please ignore me if it is the case and please go ahead with it, if it is easy
Because it is not ready yet.
