Argyll printer+ink profiling - No CGATS file identifier found

Hello, little problem with Argyll here. I want to make a printer+ink profile using this guide: https://torger.se/anders/photography/argyll-print.html#toc3

I try to generate a table of test target color patches (step 2 in the workflow), but I get the following error. Other paper profiles, including from other manufacturers, lead to the same error message. Any ideas?

paul@graveyron:~/displaycal/jul20$ targen -v -d2 -c TECCO_SC-P7000_PFR295_FineArtRag.icc -G -g8 -f210 p7000_tecco_pfr295 targen: Error - 1, Error at line 0 of file 'TECCO_SC-P7000_PFR295_FineArtRag.icc': No CGATS file identifier found

Salut, @paulmatth,

What happens if you remove the preconditioning?
I.e. if you remove

-c TECCO_SC-P7000_PFR295_FineArtRag.icc

According to Anders, There is certainly not a big difference between profiles using pre-conditioning or not, especially if you use a high patch count.

Hej @Claes, I did that as well and it worked (an it-something file was created, I’m not on my pc right now). Although the differences between yes or no preconditioning might be small, I still wonder what that error msg means and where it comes from.

Regards, Paul.

How’s your Russian? [Run it through a translator if it is as bad as mine :-)]

Stupid idea, probably, but to be on the safe side:
where is the preconditioning file located?

If it is in the working directory, try

paul@graveyron:~/displaycal/jul20$ targen -v -d2 -c ./TECCO_SC-P7000_PFR295_FineArtRag.icc -G -g8 -f210 p7000_tecco_pfr295

Hello, according to the torger.se site, this paper/ink profile should be in the current directory, so in my case …/jul20. Even with your ./ it returns the same error…

That Russian site talks about CGATS indeed, but I don’t understand how to repair this.

So I thought, I remove the preconditioner (your first suggestion) from the command. That results in a file called P7000_Tecco_PFR295.ti1. From here I can use a command to generate a tiff to be printed.

I’ll give this shorter route a try and see what happens. Thanks for lending me your brain!

Might this be a reason for your problems??

Thanks Claes, I’ll give that a try tomorrow.

Hello Claes, you were right, icc profiles v4 are not supported (yet) by argyll.

I found this recent discussion on the argyll mailinglist:
https://www.freelists.org/post/argyllcms/ICC-v4-Support-Roadmapped,1

There Graeme Gill, the maker of Argyll, says:

At this point possibility of adding ICC V4 support depends on the
successful conclusion of a commercial licensing deal involving
ArgyllCMS, the negotiations of which have been going on for
some time. If that agreement were to go ahead, then ICC V4
support would be about 12 months or so away. If that deal fails to eventuate, then there is no current road map, although many of the small updates in the past have taken it in the direction of making the task easier.
