Arrow-buttons to close Darktable side bars are missing [solved]

Hello there,

some weeks ago I raged and hit some keys on my keyboard.
Unfortunately, I somehow must’ve changed specific settings in Darktable because afterwards those little arrows on the right and left edges were gone. By clicking them you are able to fully close the side bars.

While I’m in lighttable-section those buttons are still visible but after switching to darkroom they are instantly gone.

If you don’t know what I mean, I made a screenshot showing the problem.

I already checked the settings but haven’t found any solution yet.
Furthermore, I even updated the whole program but the problem remains unsolved.
But I found out that the side bars can be closed by pressing the shortcut Shift+Ctrl+L (for the left side) and Shift+Ctrl+R (for the right side). Maybe this might help.

It is not a crucial problem but recently I’ve discovered how much I really need them.
If you have any ideas on how to fix this problem please let me know.

Greetings,
Finn

Hi @zfiinny, and welcome!

a) Don’t rage. It rarely helps.
b) Study Preferences/Shortcuts.
c) What if you carefully press key b?

Have fun!

For future reference the hammer-to-crack-a-nut options are

(a) delete or rename the darktablerc file (you’ll lose all your preferences)
(b) delete or rename the entire configuration directory (will be like you started from scratch and you’ll need to re-import all your images and re-set-up your preferences)

The rename options are good to at least find out if it’s your setup/machine/installation causing the problem.

Having said that, for this particular problem I’m sure pressing b will work.

Edit: I see you’ve already found this, sorry, didn’t read your post category.

Ctrl+Shift+b or t or l or r toggles the bottom or top or left or right panel. Tab toggles all of them. For top and bottom, they actually cycle through the different modes.

Goddamn it! How the f- did you figured it out so quickly!?
It’s solved all my problems instantly!

I’ve really struggled whit this mess for so long now and it was really that easy…?!

Thank you so much, Claes!
Next time, I’ll “express” my “inner power” with a walk outside

Cheers, Finn
