Astrophoto Denoise shutting down the program

When I try to use the Astrophoto Denoise module the program shuts down. I can turn on the module, but when I try to adjust any slider the program closes?

Thoughts.

Thanks.

Welcome Jerry…we need more info OS, version of DT… also if DT crashes there is a log file that can be checked for details that can help…

Current master has a fix for this issue. There might still be another bug.

I previously had this problem and I believe the developers made some improvements in the current master that has resolved or reduced that problem greatly for me on my computers with graphic cards and open cl activated, however, my work laptop has no dedicated graphics card and open cl can not be activated. I tested astrophoto denoise using the latest V4.3 on my work laptop and the software crashed when I moved the strength slider. It may be a resource issue, but I defer to more knowledgeable people here.

If it continues to happen on master, then someone needs to create a new detailed issue in GitHub and test further fixes. We are ~5.5weeks from 4.4, so now is the time to speak up and assist in fixing this.

I’m on 4.3 +1435 currently (a few weeks old I think…) and have never used astro denoise but just tried it and it seems fine. All sliders work, and the effect looks like what I’d expect.
OpenCL is on, Nvidia GTX1650, 16GB ram.

Yes, can confirm. I’m on 4.3.0+2181 and have used the module on about 200 images (over the last few days) in different variations (also masked) - not a single problem.

Ah… just discovered that if I disable OpenCL, dt closes immediately when I switch on astro denoise.
Would you like to try that? I think dt has to be restarted after unticking the OpenCL box in prefs…
Edit: sorry, @Terry already found that… still, confirmation is good I guess.

Sure, gonna try that.

Ok, no new information on my side. Without OpenCL it crashes as soon as an image (with the module used) is opened.

Good to know!

My home computers have open cl activated and the latest fix to the master seems to work for me with astrophoto denoise, but my work computer doesn’t have the option for open cl and I get a crash.

Three different user reporting an issue with no OpenCL. Now we need an Issue in GitHub.

It’s not this one again?

Unlikely since they are reporting seeing this on current master (after this PR). I’ve seen 4 user report the issue after the PR.

Edit: Steve is not on current master.

I am ready to report the crash when importing / creating thumbs (would do so in the evening), which would be pretty much the same IR like #14325. But I can not reproduce the crash described in this thread (activating astro denoise an changing values). So, some other person would be more suitable for this case.

I created an issue.

If somebody in this thread has additional information, maybe provide it also on github.

here is the issue

Or rather, the latest weekly build from @wpferguson

Seeing the same behaviour as before - fine with OpenCL, instant close/crash without OpenCL.

Win 11 Intel Nvidia platform… not seeing this with this build

Just building now and will update if I notice a change…

With tonights build I did see crashes… The first time it was with first enabling astro and then dehaze. Restarted and that sequence didn’t do it but click and adding some random module would eventually create a crash… error is always the same and happens with OPENCL off…]

What about the nightly builds?
