Birth and death of a sunset

A bit melodramatic, maybe (definitely), especially as relatively bland as this sunset was!

Two hours earlier the sky was primed for possibly spectacular cloud colors and shapes, but naturally within an hour before sunset they moved on. In fact you can see their disappearance from one of these images to the other. But whatever the sunset lacked, the mosquitos made up for…

ART 1.23

To me the interesting thing in processing these was what to emphasize and what to “let disappear” given the changing light conditions onsite.

I used DT Sigmoid module for processing the sunset. With sunsets the positioning of the skew slider and the preserve hue slider has significant impact on the look of the image with sunsets. It is a very interesting module to explore with sunsets because of these two sliders.

I found myself going back more than once to the first shot and reducing color / saturation in the bluish clouds above the trees. There are some very faint crepuscular rays (“God rays”) above those clouds but I wasn’t able to emphasize them without it looking goofy in other respects.

@lphilpot do you know by chance, what planet or star it was in the sky?

It was Venus.
