Sorry if this has been discussed to death. I thought there was a thread about books on raw processing including color management in here a while ago, but now I can’t find it. [Mods, please feel free to combine or move the thread if necessary.]
I have not had a printer for many years but am planning to buy one fairly soon, likely a Canon Pixma or ProGraf 13". I am basically starting from scratch here and need to get up to speed on everything. I do have a good local tech who makes house calls to help me on the setup if necessary. I do not believe he is a photographer or knows much about fine art photography printing.
My knowledge of this whole topic, from monitor calibration, to setting up color management in RT, to soft proofing and printing is spotty at best. I do understand the issues with each device and printer/paper/ink combination having its own gamut, and the importance of using ProPhoto RGB as a working space and for archival purposes. I am at least familar with rendering intents, although have zip in the way of hands-on experience.
I own and have read Jeff Schewe’s books (e.g., The Digital Print), and they are fine, but, obviously geared to Adobe products.
I realize there are likely few to zero books specifically on RT, but I am able to piece some things together by looking up topics in RawPedia, and by watching Andy Astbury’s videos (just re-watched two on color spaces). However, for this topic, encompassing many different devices, operating system, etc. I need a broader, preferably step-by-step guide.
Oh, yeah, and unfortunately I am still stuck on Windows 11. ![]()
Any suggestions for books, videos, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
