Brain Lock Question: getting RT image into PS Elements

Apologies - New to all this here…

In order to “save” an image into Photoshop Elements once I’ve finished my RT edit, I’ve read that I must specify that in “preferences.”

My question is: what field in “preferences” do I type that into? Foundering around, I’ve tried typing “C:\Program Files\Adobe\PSE\photoshop.exe” into what seemed to be the appropriate field, but, alas…

Can anyone point me at the correct input field? I’m sure I’m missing something simple and straightforward…

With thanks for any suggestions.

Might this help?

Thank you, Claes. I have read through that section - several times now - but I just do’t know where, what RT field to plug in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\PSE\photoshop.exe”

Still blundering around…

What fields do you see? Show a screenshot.

Aha! Got it! Thanks to all!

@wtm if it works for you now, then paste here the full path to PSE as you used in RT so that I can update the documentation.

In Win 10/64-bit it looks like this:

Perhaps a premature Declaration of Victory, but at least now I can get an RT-edited image into PSE.

I used the standard path as shown in the example: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PSE\photoshop.exe in the Other Command Line field.

Now, when I saved an RT-edited image, I directed it to a special folder and then loaded it into PSE. It now opens there fine, whereas formerly, PSE would refuse to open it due to the sidecar file extent.

(No screenshot; I have only recently installed RT, and cannot find how to reduce the size of the “preferences” screen in order to physically access the clipping utility!)

I’m assuming that this is only a rough workaround…but I am truly at Ground Zero

(using Win 7 32 bit)

From the link I sent you a few hours ago:
You can have RawTherapee send the processed image directly to an external program, e.g. an image viewer, an image editor or a script. You do this using the Image-editor “Edit Current Image in External Editor” button in the Editor tab under the main preview, see the Saving article. It is here in Preferences where you can customize which program is to be sent this processed image when you click the button.

Hmm. I’m using RT 5.2 and am not sure that I can see the entire screen.

On the “preferences” pop-up, I can see the"save" icons and top edges of the entry fields:

and cannot scroll further down.

Should I be able to see more, or able to make an entry of some sort?

@wtm your installation is broken. Get and install RawTherapee 5.3.

Oh, Madonna! That answers a few small question.
Grazie mille, Morgan!

@wtm this is the issue you’re experiencing:

Close RT and delete your options file before upgrading to 5.3.

Done.
Goes into Win Pic Viewer -and thence into PSE ok (as a Tiff), but PSE still hates the PP3 extent and won’t open files so designated.

Odd.

  1. How does it “go” into PSE?
  2. What happens if you hit WinKey+r, paste C:\Program Files\Adobe\PSE\photoshop.exe into the “run” dialog and hit enter?
  1. “open with” PSE

  2. TBD - hiatus here for errands put off while at keyboard. Will try the “run” test you suggest to make sure that the path is correct. Thanks again; staying tuned.

  1. Nada; path not good.

Win+r of the installed native path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\Photoshop Elements 12.0.exe” opens it up, but the pop-up of course requires a choice of “organizer” or “editor”. Will find the direct route

Light at the end of the tunnel.

Fixed a syntax error in the “Other Command” entry in Preferences. On hitting the “external editor” button, the image loaded up into PSE.
Thanks to all!

@wtm what’s the correct syntax?
