I removed and recreated build directory a few times, reran cmake to no avail:
cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release …

RawTherapee does build, but it takes a while. See Speed up compilation for release builds with GCC 12.1 · Issue #6548 · Beep6581/RawTherapee · GitHub.

I installed it yesterday too… and it did work…

After 3 attempts - with everything closed down and it took all available processing power… having thought about it for about 15 minutes…

Thanks, everybody. This time I waited, waited and waited and the build went through eventually.
