Cannot find folders in darktable

I have Windows 11 and I just downloaded Darktable 5.2.1, the latest version.
When I try ”add to library”, I get a list of folders, one of which is ” My documents”, which has subfolders in several levels. But when I click on ”My documents”, I do not get any subfolders, so I do not reach my photos.
I have tried to place a folder containing photos directly under C: , but that folder is not visible in the list of folders.
So what can I do to make my photos available to ”add to library”?

I guess (looks like I haven’t had to think about this for 11 months, but will soon) that you add the location(s) where you want darktable to look for your photos under “Places” in the add-to-Library dialogue box.

You can remove the directories that you do not want it to look and those that are irrelevant to your setup

Welcome Sten,

I might say: ‘read the manual’ but that is not a nice welcome… :innocent:

When you press ‘add to library’ you get ‘places’. When you press the ‘+’ you’ll be able to maneuver to the place were your pictures are stored. Hope this helps.

And since you’re new here I take the opportunity - hope useful for you - to share a bit of info:

  • You may find it helpful to take part in the ‘play raw’ category. There you share one of your pic’s and other’s play with them. Quite a nice way to learn a lot about darktable
  • You may want to read the manual from time to time :smirk: darktable user manual - darktable It is one of my favorites,
  • There are many how to’s out there on YouTube. You might want to have a look at those. As an example Bruce Williams an Boris Hajdukovic both produce excellent video’s (in my humble opinion).
  • And you may want to check https://planet.darktable.org/

As said be welcome here and have fun,

Kind regards, Jetze
PS Ignore all this when overkill…

Welcome to the forum. Darktable is a great program. Worth the learning curve. Hopefully your issue is resolved. Clicking on the + icon when you have selected add to library or copy and import will let you navigate to the folder you want or your SD card.
