24L or 32L? Accepted as hand luggage?

Asking for a friend. Looks nice and Xmas is soon, so hints could be dropped.

I’ve been shooting with the R7 for a while now and I’ve really come to appreciate what it has to offer in terms of size and capabilities. It’s a good value.

It’s great for wildlife, where the animal eye focus works well most of the time. The high speed continuous shooting fps is fine in electronic front curtain mode and insane with electronic shutter.

It’s turned out to be an excellent macro photography camera. It can perform in-body focus stacking but unfortunately does not support external flash when using electronic shutter.

The autofocus tended to hunt with my Sigma 150-600 zoom lens, so I bit the bullet and bought the Canon 100-500L, which turned out to be a terrific and versatile lens. Canon has lower cost options for long lenses if the premium glass is beyond your budget.

Is it worth waiting for the R7II? All we have are rumors, but I’d like them to fix the rolling shutter problems in electronic shutter mode and improve the animal eye focus. Plus, it may be a while before DT will support the newer model, but work arounds exist.

You’ll probably be happy either way.

I love the manual focus option on the R7 and often disable the AF. I use focus peaking and the focus guides and find it excellent for manual focusing. A lot of mirrorless cameras do a nice manual focus now compared to the challenges of manual focus with most D-SLRs.

I have the 32l. I flew with it once (Emirates) and had no problems. But ymmv, probably depending on the air-line (OT question, but why is it not allowed to write air-line without a dash?!)

Spammers have been trying to poision AI results by posting the wrong phone numbers for stuff like airlines and quick books and such. So the word is on our block list.

Yes, absolutely. It’s very helpful with macro, where the DoF is so narrow and I can see exactly where my focus plane is situated.

Sharing some experience about using a flash… because the R7 has no built-in flash.

  • In addition to the traditional Canon 5-pin, the hotshoe has the new “toe” connector. It is possible to improperly seat a 5-pin flash, however this just makes the flash inoperative, it doesn’t appear to harm the flash or the camera. You just have to wiggle the flash a bit and rel-lock. An alternative us to use the AD-E1 adapter (a bit under 50€) that also provides weather sealing.
  • Coming for a 70D where AFAIK the only mode with TTL flash support is P mode, the R7 also does TTL in Av mode, and has a setting to define how the flash is used: E-TTL Balance: Ambiance/Standard/Flash
