Vancouver Island for me too, taking a boat out of Campbell River.
The rules have become very strict there (for good reason), so it’s hard to get close. I think they even try to move away if the whales head towards the boats.
I “only” had a 70-300 on APS-C, so 450mm equivalent was the most I could zoom in.
No breaches or spyhopping for us, but some nice tail flukes.

Nice graphical patterns with heat haze @Thomas_Do!
Here’s one of my recent ones along the same theme. The lack of sharpness was heat haze, which I actually think gives it a more painting-like quality.

There is no diff between telephoto or a crop besides compression

Wait, is there a difference in compression? Telephotos are basically an optical crop and at the same resolution optical vs. digital zoom shouldn’t matter, but correct me if I’m wrong… or if I misunderstood

This plane usually only flies with one, I think they only have the tips in them to practice the targeting. Don’t worry, the last time the Portuguese AF did anything remotely offensive was probably still in its colonies… So 50+ years ago.
Sometimes they carry more stuff, dunno why the different configs.
Funnily enough today I spotted a pair of F18s passing to land, perhaps Spanish as I don’t think the US would send planes here? It was loud as hell I’ve lived here 2 years now and never heard as much activity as in the last two months. I know that in central europe a lot of planes are constantly scrambled of late as russian threats increase, but dunno why that would be the case here. Although Russia considers Portugal one of the most hostile European countries hahaha. Overall we are a bit spineless and a vassal of the US. Unlike Spain we didn’t forbid its military from using our bases on its way to Iran.
