Capture sharpening and additional sharpening

I have a Nikon D850, which doesn’t have a low-pass (anti-aliasing) filter.

In the past, I have used the D&S sharpen demosaic → No AA filter preset for filtering.

With the advent of capture sharpening, I wonder whether that is still the correct option to use, or whether I should use a different sharpening method.

I would imagine it is a case of taking screenshots and just comparing the result and making a decision based on your own impression. But in saying that I look forward to some of the authoritative replies here as I too am still coming to grips with what to expect from capture sharpening in DT 5.3.

I switched to capture sharpening almost fully since it is available. It is less resource intensive and at least as good as diffuse & sharpen for the kind of sharpening I like.

That said, while I was initially very enthusiastic for diffuse & sharpen, I rarely ever touch it these days, and then I usually just diffuse, simulating halation or a mist filter.

I think if you still need some additional sharpening its a decent preset…That preset as will all of the others is greatly controlled by the two edge settings and perhaps to a degree the details slider in the masking if you use that with the module…so I would say for sure use it if you want a touch more sharpening and just tweak opacity or fine tune with those edge sliders…they are the real key to guiding and controlling the impact of the module…
