Chance encounter on a morning walk

Everytime I post a play raw, I think “Ooooh, I wonder what Lyle is going to do with this one!”. You always bring a wildly different look to the image (in a good way)!

Appreciate the words; enjoy having a bit of respite in a busy world.

Appropriate listening for this image

No play to add but what a beautiful capture you got. For whatever issues the image has, most people aren’t regularly getting images of a buck staring right at them. Did it stick around after you took the shot or did it get scared off?

I am going to assume the question was for me and not @arturoisilvia

The story:
I saw him coming up the steep hill (directly behind him) but he was moving from camera right to camera left. I was hoping to catch him entering a small clearing 90deg camera left. I crouched down, pre-focused and waited for him to come into view. Imagine my surprise when I finally heard him in the leaves off my right shoulder and he was completely unaware of my presence.

I was able to turn my upper body and snap off a few frames. I think he heard the camera and stopped in his tracks, but still didn’t see me. He stuck his head up sniffing and ears twitching, giving me this frame.

I wanted to get the tree roots out of frame, but my foot snapped a twig as I pivoted and raised. He bolted back down the hill.

My attempt with darktable 5.3.0.892 and Agx. Found it not to noisy.
