Contrast adjustment - all comments welcome

I took this shot because of combination of an interesting sky and the way the sun highlights the boat. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to better combine these two elements

Martin do you want people to only comment on your edit or to also take a stab at it…if so I think you just need to add the CC license so they can…

Are you planning to share the resulting jpg for viewing?

Todd, thank you for your response. I would add a cc liscence if I knew how. Is there a set formula or registration required?

Hi Martin,
Nice shot. I’m going to assume (fingers crossed!) that you do want people to post their own versions of your image, but please let me know if that’s not what you intended :slightly_smiling_face: I can always delete the image from the post. :open_mouth:
BTW, the CC licence mentioned above is just a line of text - see my “play JPG” post for an example. You could probably copy and paste from there, if, of course, you did want to make the photo more or less public property.
Edit: I just saw your reply to Todd… and my image won’t upload  I’ll try again a bit later
It worked now!
I started out with your edit, then: (not in order)
Enabled lens correction
Applied the vivid preset in color balance rgb, and used the highlights sliders in the 4 ways tab of color balance rgb to make the bright parts of the image a little warmer
Increased exposure slightly.
Reduced the contrast a little in filmic
Switched on local contrast with similar to default settings
Applied some sharpening in diffuse and sharpen.

Martin, to elaborate a bit, I can never remember the CC licence wording, but if you open a draft for a new thread, and set the category to Play Raw, it gives you the licence in the text window. You could copy and paste from there, then disscard the draft. Hope that makes sense

Steven

Thank you for your help and for posting this version.
Yes indeed I was hoping that people would post their own versions of this image.

My play in GIMP.
I used my equal luminosity mask plug-in to adjust brightness and contrast in various zones. Increase of saturation in the water. Darkened the foreground and removed the cable at the top left as I felt it was a distraction.
Thanks for sharing.

Difficult, due to the high dynamic range. My try:

My attempt. As usual, I see the scene as darker than everyone else. dt 4.0.1

Martin,

My B&W processing attempt at your capture - using DT3.8.0 - I still consider myself a newbie with DT.
