Hi to everybody,
I cannot open .RW2 lumix S5 files. Any suggestion ?
Thanks for your help
Best regards
Jean-Louis
Can you upload an example of one that is troubling you and give a bit more info (what does cannot open mean, exactly).
This camera (Panasonic DC-S5) is supported in darktable: camera support
I’ve just downloaded an example RW2 from dpreview (this one), and it opens nicely in dt 3.6.0. on my side.
Uploading: P1000010.RW2…
Thank you Jacques,
Here is one example of the received message when trying to open the file
"error loading file : F:\My Pictures\2021_07_08_09_Greece\01_Kos\S5\P1000010.RW2
Find joined the same file. I have also a lumix FZ1000 and the associated .RW2 files open with no problem.
It seems that the total length file (including the directories) is too long.
I opened my file moving it at F:
Best regards
It is more likely the space in the directory name rather than the length.
Try and underscore where you have the space…not too long bit the space as @kmilos mentions is likely it…
Is it, though? I really doubt that.
I run Linux and although I don’t like having spaces and special characters in my file and directory names, I’m “forced” at the moment to have them due to Rapid Photo Downloader’s inability to give me a nice spaceless entry for my cameras and I thus end up with directory names with (multiple) spaces:
drwxr-x— 2 jade jd 4096 jul 2 15:15 2021.07.02.nikon d750
drwxr-x— 2 jade jd 4096 jul 10 12:13 2021.07.10.nikon z 6_2
I don’t have any issues.
Then again: You are using windows, maybe this is a OS specific thing. I can’t check this for you.
I’m not able to download your example (link doesn’t work) so I cannot check what else this could be.
Hi everybody,
Thank you to all of you.
Here is where I’m this morning
_ I tried replacing the spaces by underscores - no effect
_ I tried shortening the path name - no clear effect except when I move my pictures at the root of a HD
_ I tried moving one of the new S5 files into an old directory mixed with FZ1000 pictures - it opens !
_ I moved back my S5 file into the very same directory as of yesterday - DT opened all files like a charm !
So now I succeeded open all my S5 files and I’m happy but honestly I don’t undestand what happened. As I’m on holidays abroad I will not go further by now.
Have a nice day
Glad to see you got this fixed, but not knowing what might have caused it (or will in the future) is somewhat unsatisfying.
I’m not a Windows user, but you might want to have a good look at the file/directory permissions next time this happens.
For sure that is not satisfying. As a Windows user, I generally do not parameter the permissions but I did not detect any difference in the permissions between an old directory ad a new one so far.
