I’ve been using darktable 3.6 for a little over a month and all of a sudden it stopped working. When I go to move a dial in any edit, it freezes and crashes. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled multiple times but it does the same thing. Please help.
Hi @jmbubka & welcome!
Operating system?
What happened just before
it stopped working?
From where do you fetch darktable?
Have fun!

Windows 10 but when I pull up settings in taskbar it shows it’s operating on windows 8. I originally downloaded it from some other site (not sure which one). Reinstalled from the darktable site itself.
And nothing happened right before it stopped working. It was fine the night before but didn’t work the next morning.
Not much to go on
Try this method, to see if you can coax some info from the culprit…
(I am not a windowsian, so my suggestion might not be fully correct.)
- Start a windows terminal.
- Go to darktable’s home folder (presumably C:\Program Files\darktable\bin).
- Still in terminal, type darktable.exe and hit Enter.
- Now darktable will start (or not).
- Close darktable.
What information has darktable now written in the terminal window?
Have fun!

I’m not sure if I did that right but now it opens up and the layout is different. Still not working though.
W-e-l-l, if you cannot give more clues
I am afraid that we are unable to assist you
Did you get any text in the terminal window?
If so: what did it say?
Which compiler (gcc, clang, which version) was used to make the windows build of dt?
I ask, because on RT we have problems with windows versions built using gcc > 10
We have crashes, undefined behaviour and so…
I reverted to gcc 10.3. That fixed the problems
Did you upgraded graphics driver?
You can try to start darktable with --disable-opencl option.
You can also remove the darktable cache in \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\darktable
Also you can rename your config directory for a test if your config is broken …\AppData\Local\darktable
I really appreciate you guys helping me. Unfortunately, I’m not the best at computers and code. Where do I type the lines of code in? It won’t bring up a windows terminal for some reason.
@jmbubka In order to try to solve this problem of yours: do you have some local acquaintance who might be familiar with basic Window handling?
Have fun!

I got it working (for now anyway) but I am going to talk to an IT guy at work today. Windows 10 seems a lot different than what I’m used to. For some reason there were a few check boxes unchecked in the actual darktable settings but I know there’s something else going on. I really appreciate your help and patience.
