Hi. After the recent Windows 10 update, the Darktable 4.2.0 program stopped working properly. After launching, the program refuses to display on the whole screen, and when trying to stretch it shuts down. Until now, everything was fine. Windows 10. processor i5 4590. graphics card GT 1030 Monitor 28" 4k
find your darktable directory in your users Appdata > local and rename darktablerc to something different that so you can run darktable with default settings.
Then run darktable from terminal with debug messages turned on (-d all) to get infos where the issue might occur
I found the directory and removed it completely. I then reinstalled Darktable and the problem still occurs. I think it has to do with the latest Windows 10 update
You could try to do what MStraeten told you.
There could also be a log file in
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\darktable
which could provide usable info.
Thank you for your answers. Unfortunately, I’m not a computer scientist and I don’t know how to run Darktable from a terminal with debug messages enabled. I think I will wait for the next version of Darktable. Maybe the authors will change something and it will work properly again. I’ll just write that Rawtherapee works correctly, so the problem lies with the Darktable program.
Try downloading the new weekly build. BTW it sounds a windows problem not a dt problem. I just updated windows tonight and hope i don’t get the same problem
RT is not darktable - since i don’t have any issue with running darktable on win10 i doubt there’s an issue with darktable that will be fixed by accidence… ![]()
Very unlikely: From what you post, it’s very hard to see what went wrong. And the problems appearing after a Windows 10 update indicates that the update is the cause. That another program still works only means it doesn’t use the Windows system the same way as darktable…
Funny, not all that long ago (~30 years?), running a program from a terminal (with or without parameters) was the standard way of running programs for everyone.
Thank you.
Since the program was shutting down after 2 seconds, I decided to change the name in Appdata to something else. The program started working, but after a short while it shut down again. I then turned off the openCL service and Darktable started working. Unfortunately, it works so slowly that you can’t edit pictures
then do a search on opencl and windows 10 here - there were known issues with windows opencl configurations
The problem was solved. In the
" processing" tab on the OpenCL item was set " detect fast graphics card" I changed this setting to " default " and everything started working.
