darktable-5.4.1-win64 Will Not Start

Hi,

I’ve just installed dartable 5.4.1 in Win7 x64 and it will not start. There’s a shortcut in the start menu and clicking on it generates the pop-up:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close.

I’ve read the faq below and none of the windows lof file location exist on my machine, so I don’t know where the installer is writing its log file to.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Windows 7 is not supported by dt or even Microsoft.

You’ll need at least Windows 8.1 for dt 5.4. (Windows 10 going forward.)

you might try to build it yourself - but that might fail due to missing dependencies supporting win7

Consider updating your computer to Linux for security since Windows 7 is not supported for safe internet browsing. I have put Linux mint on my older computers and been very pleased. My main laptop is Windows 11 though.

Ah, ok. There’s nothing on the download page about supported Win versions so I assumed it would work. I see there’s something on github about win10 though. Should have looked there.

What was the last version of dt that ran under Win7 and where would I get it? Can’t find the older Win binaries on github.

I only want it for applying kodachrome filters to my digital pictures, and for cropping.

Thanks.

Release 4.2.1.
EDIT: @kmilos was right, that’s why I edited this post so that it wasn’t misleading and also had the correct answer, 4.2.1.
