Darktable bashing changed to how can I make LR look like DT....

I couldn’t resist…

After so many posts and discussions around how dull and flat DT images are initially when editing this I find quite funny. A recent blog post has stimulated a bit of a flurry around creating linear profiles for LR to create a “better” starting image . THe latest craze may be to un-lightroom lightroom… After all the DT bashing this is quite funny. If you are someone new to DT and having these feelings…these links might help to orient you why DT is the way DT is and why LR is the way it is…Andy points this out nicely…

New Craze 🙂

Andy who uses Rawtherapee also does a nice explanation

We already have it

I find it quite funny that a lot of LRC users are just realizing this now after all this time. Back when I first started photography I just couldn’t get into LRC’s pre baked base.

One of the reasons I chose capture one before going full FOSS was because it is the only commercial raw editor I found that allow you to set a linear tone curve from the start.

Now after getting my head around scene refered methodologies in dt I literally can’t use any other software and I say that as a huge RT fan as well. I just wish I can mush my favorite parts together into one software :joy:

I bounce around DT RT and ART…even played with Filmulator a bit….each has something to offer……

LOL good find @priort !

 Good one
What’s the Venn diagram between users who think DT is dull and flat and the ones who brag that their photos are not ‘photoshopped’ when they post them?

:joy: :joy: :joy:

After all this time and criticism to darktable because images don’t look as good as Lightroom and Capture One, and now Lightroom users want to change their starting point to linear to get a look like darktable.

so much swimming to die on the shore.

Some of us have been showing the benefits of linearisation in Lightroom for years, but would the majority listen??
Of course they wouldn’t :exploding_head:

Of course not linear raw looks bad. But yet the very reason why they yank around the shadows and highlights slider on every photo is because they are fighting the pre processing of Lightroom. All they are doing is trying to make it more linear they just never realized it.

My biggest shock with LR was how many good raws can get get culled because you think they are bad because of the pre processing that is hidden.
