I hope this isnt something people ignore. My darktable ui draws about 30gb or more for my image processing. Closing it down and running the cli frees up so much ram for processing. The design team really nailed it with this application.
Draws 30gb of what?
Ram.
What kind of processing is that? The UI really should not take up much RAM; and then processing requires RAM depending on the resolution, whether the UI is loaded or not.
BTW, post darktable-related questions under Software|darktable: just start typing darktable into the category box, and offer the proffered option. ‘Processing’ is for suggestions for ways to develop an image.
Also, how did you measure RAM usage? If I look at the system monitor on my system, dt uses about 2.5 GB RAM (on Linux, KDE). Total memory used is about 25GB (on a 48GB machine), and that includes some other “heavy” programs…
Massive photos and editing. I have 8x10 negatives that im processing. Its extremely fun. Its also punishing darktable and leading to some significant edge cases. What im really impressed with is the ability for the cli to replicate everything i could do in the UI. Its an exceptional application.
