Darktable crashed when I try tethering

I’m new to this but I’m trying to live view photos with dark table using my Nikon D7000.

I open darktable and click mount camera then click tethered shoot, and the program shuts down. I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this or what to even try next. Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi and welcome to the forum! Can you start by telling us which version of darktable and your OS version?

Thanks! Yeah it’s a windows 10 and darktable 4.8.1

Have you gone thru the troubleshooting steps? darktable 4.8 user manual - troubleshooting

I saw that but I don’t understand what it means for me to do. I’m not sure where I would put that text to test it. Would you explain what I’m supposed to do with those pieces of code and where to paste them?

the text is for executing at a command line interface, like cmd.exe

First, you’ll need to install special drivers for windows: faq | darktable

Sadly, we don’t ship the gphoto2 command w/ the Windows package, so this kind of troubleshooting is not possible OOTB on that platform (AFAIK).

The driver change could hopefully be enough…?

I always had problems using the tethering in darktable. I even think it should be disabled by default.

It works for some people, so I dont think we should disable it. The main problem seems to be the camera interface with gphoto2 and how that communication happens. Making sure you have an update camera firmware, up to date drivers and up to date gphoto can help. Of course providing crash logs can help identify the root cause and at least display an error instead of a crash.
