Darktable crashing as soon as I click on "add to library" in the import section

Dear All… I am facing this issue where darktable crashes as soon as I click on the “add to library” button in the import photos section. I am using M1 MacBook Air and the latest version of darktable(3.8). I have tried to uninstall and install it multiple times but it has not solved this issue. I am unable to import any new photos to darktable. Any help will be useful.

You may try running from the command line and see if any useful error message is output there. Also, usually a crash log (backtrace) is produced when it encounters a fatal error: the developers can analyse that to fix problems.

or even better - if you have xcode installed, run it via lldb <path to darktable binary>/darktable

Thank you for the quick response… I have an error log. The error log is too big to post in the group and th forum does not allow attachment of text files. Is there any other method to post the error log?

You could share it via a download link, via pastebin.com (I don’t know if there are size limitations), via https://gist.github.com, or open a Github issue (https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/new?assignees=&labels=&template=bug_report.md&title=).

@kofa Thank you again…
The error log is posted here…(Darktable crash error log - Pastebin.com)
Any help will be much appreciated.

OK, thanks for that. Now you can either wait until they find this entry (I’ve added the macos label for better visibility), or you can try chatting them directly:

Have the pastebin link ready if you do join IRC. :slight_smile:

Have you added darktable to macos’ gatekeeper function to allow darktable to read from disk?

Yes I have added it to macOS gatekeeper. In fact, darktable was working fine until I tried to access the apple photo library. After that it just started crashing.

you don’t want darktable to access your apple library :wink:
