If you guys were on the hunt for a photo editor, where would you post?
I’m hoping to get around 50 RAW photos edited for a Buster Keaton conference that my 13-year-old son is attending on October 2 and 3. The photos are from a recent silent-film-themed family vacation that we took. I took a moth off work to prep and take the trip which has put me behind.
Before the vacation, I bought a Fujifilm camera, but I haven’t had much time to learn Darktable beyond simple edits like adjusting the exposure. I shot the photos in both RAW and JPG formats.
His goal at the conference is to show a set of frames from various Keaton films alongside photos of what those filming locations look like today.
Is there an editor on here who would be willing to help? For compensation I can make a donation to the OSS project of choice – or we can work something out.
Here is a random example for the “then” and “now” (in jpg) of the photos:
Hi and welcome! There may be someone willing to help, but what is wrong with the out of camera jpegs? From your sample, they look pretty good. Fuji provides nice jpegs, generally.
Yeah that’s my backup plan. The goal is to have the photos to match the frames of the various films as close as possible. Plus I can likely learn a fair bit from working with someone who knows darktable well.
Someone may be in the position to help you but I would suggest that also posting the two images above as a playraw then people on the forum could show you the modules to use to get a similar old sepia look to the images. You could then create a style and it would give you a excellent starting point for your project.
I know someone will complain about me suggesting another playraw but I feel it would be a suitable option on this occasion. Alternatively send me these two images as a private message and I will try and have a go at creating a style to get you started.
If you have camera jpgs that are usable, then I would simply make a presentation document (Powerpoint or Libreoffice Impress) with 2 image frames on the slide, put the 2 photos in a use the crop function to get them alike.
