Darktable install fedora 36

Hi everyone,

Do anyone know how to install Darktable (4.6.0 or 4.4.2) with fedora 36 ?

I used to have DT 4.4.2 installed using the OBS packages. Unfortunately they don’t exist anymore (neither as binaires nor as repo).
By mistake I added the master repo and know I have a development version installed… which I don’t want.

I would like to install the latest release (4.6.0) or at least the older release (4.4.2) instead.

Thank you very much

Its time to upgrade to soemthing newer. 36 is very much not supported.

Yeah I know…
But mistake was made and now that I have a reduced access to internet I just want to reuse a binary I know I exists (the 4.4.2) to wait for a better option

You really should upgrade Fedora. The only supported versions are Fedora 38 (still, until Fedora 40 is released) and the current version, Fedora 39.

Fedora 36 has been out of support for a while:

Ended 7 months ago (16 May 2023)

That said, darktable 4.6.0 is available on Flathub, and you should be able to install that with Fedora 36 in the meantime.

And if you’re using a browser on that machine, make sure you have a newer browser too. The browsers published in Fedora 36 no longer have security issues fixed (as Fedora 36 is out of date).

There are browsers on Flathub too. Firefox is officially published on Flathub by Mozilla, making it a good choice.

Of course, all of these require downloading too. So you might need to find a good Internet connection regardless… and you should update when you do so. Fedora has upgrades between major versions and it’s thoroughly tested and works well.

(They’ll take less time to download and install than a full update, of course. But you really should find the time to do that soon.)

Thank you very much for this detailed answer !

Downloading Firefox or DT is lighter than a full system upgrade but I’ll do it soon !
