Hi all,
I’m a longtime darktable user and first-time forum poster here.
I’m happy to see that the upcoming darktable 4.6.0 supports some new file formats, like
Nikon high efficiency NEFs
Samsung Expert RAW DNGs
As I’ve been eagerly waiting for such support.
I attempted to clone the darktable github repo and build last night’s nighly tag, and this worked great. I can run the test/nightly version - but sadly I don’t seem to be able to read/adjust the new file formats. I get the same error as I see in 4.4.2 when I attempt to open the darkroom view on such an image.
I’m assuming this is something I’m doing wrong, as this is the first time I’ve built and run a nightly build.
Any idea what I can do to work with the new file formats in the nightly build?
Thanks!

I does not yet unfortunately. It still lists those under “Missing Compression Mode Support”.

Hmm, it’s possible that I’m misreading this, but the release notes do say “Missing Compression Mode Support” under “Camera Support, compared to 4.4”.
We're proud to announce the new feature release of darktable, 4.8.0!
The github release is here: [https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-4.8.0](https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-4.8.0).

In other words, I thought that since these items specifically listed, compression support is “fixed” not “still missing”.
Alas, I see this issue is still open:

ExpertRAW from Samsung seems to be already demosaiced like Apple ProRAW. darktab… le gives the following error:

ExpertRAW samples uploaded to raw.pixls.us and also here. Raw files from a darktable user who couldn't upload or create an issue at Github and asked me to do so.

So perhaps you are right.
The items referred to are listed under
Camera support, compared to 4.4
(…)
Missing Compression Mode Support
Apple ProRAW DNGs
CinemaDNG lossless (Blackmagic, DJI, etc.)
Fujifilm lossy RAFs
Nikon high efficiency NEFs
Samsung Expert RAW DNGs
Sony downsized lossless ARWs ("M" for full-frame, "S" for full-frame & APS-C)
I read that as: “compared to version 4.4, we are still missing support for the compression mode for the following cameras/file formats”…
Information from the camera makers about those compression schemes tends to be as available as for the makernote part of the EXIF metadata.
