Darktable No longer remain running and cannot find my files

I first discovered Darktable while running Ubuntu on a dual boot system. That PC gave up the ghost, so I am now have a PC that runs only Windows Pro 11. I installed Darktable on that PC in November of '23, and it had been working fine.

Sometimes I would simply right-click a file an use ‘open with’ to invoke Darktable to open the file. At other times, I would ‘open with’ Gimp, which would use Dark Table as a plug-in.

At other times, I would open Darktable, and use it’s import function to bring a large number of files into a new Library.

Lately, however, Darktable either will not remain running no matter how I try to start it. The “start screen” appears, and it seems to open, but quickly shuts down. What could be the problem. I get no error messages.

Or, it will open with a single file from a while back showing in the light table window, but when I navigate to a directory to import additional files, that window shows no files and there is a message that the directory is empty, even though I can use Windows Explorer to navigate to that same folder and all my raw files appear.

Can someone please give me some advice.

In an attempt to get DT to work, I did try uninstalling and reinstalling, but that has not solved the problem.

In the meantime, I am using Rawtherapee which is working fine for me.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Caruso

Sorry for the errant “am” early in my post.

That can just mean you didn’t import any files from that directory.

It looks like your problems are related to darktable’s databases. Uninstalling and re-installing won’t do anything for that, as the databases are not removed on uninstall (as they are user data).

To see what’s really going on, we will need more information. Running darktable from a command line with the “-d common” option (and capturing the output to post here) may help.

Or you remember what changed between November of '23 and the moment darktable started misbehaving (especially just before that moment, programs don’t stop working without a reason).

What version of darktable are you using?

Can you start darktable from command line(cmd) using darktable -d common and post the results in a txt file?

Sorry to be so late in responding. I copied/pasted your command and got an error message: darktable is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

If you can give me some more pointers, I would be grateful.

You likely need to navigate to the path darktable was installed.
