Darktable Non Local Means Denoising

Hello,
I have 2 questions about Darktable Non Local Means Denoising Filter:

  1. On RAW files for profiled cameras it uses Variance Stabilizing Transformation (VST) based on a known Noise Level Function / Curve (Noise STD as a function of Luminosity Level). What happens on JPG / PNG image? Does any auto estimation of the Noise Level Function happens?
  2. What flavor of Non Local Means is it?

I’m wondering as the output for a PNG image (No exif about the camera or anything) I tried is much better than a vanilla
Non Local Means result.

Thank You.

Is there any DarkTable developer here?

Yes, there are, however this is not their official support channel; the community does the best it can here.

Your question is very developer oriented, it may be better to contact them via their official support channel.

@paperdigits, I can see your point but I think this is a community of users.
Do they have other official channel (Just not Mailing Lists, I hate those ).

Hence I thought (Hope?) anyone with the answer would chime in.

Indeed, I was not trying to discourage asking questions here and I do hope one of them answers here  I certainly do not possess the knowledge to answer and was merely trying to give you other options.

But if your need is pressing, it is mailing lists or irc: contact | darktable
