To fix it, we’d need to know exactly what is wrong, that it is actually a problem in darktable and not in another library in debian sid or a gtk issue. So best as I can see, there isn’t information this precise, but sounds like you’re narrowing it down.
Have you tried to run strace yet? What version of GTK is running in sid?
