I am looking for presets to include in the darktable spektrafilm module. So I would appreciate if you could come up with something nice. My mind is thinking about @s7habo or @bazdesh but of course everyone is invited

Module presets = no extra tone equalizer trickery and no way to force the users to use a specific WB right, haha. i will try to translate some of the python presets, will use this version of darktable.

I think 5-10 in total would be good, so if you could maybe do two or three very different ones I’d appreciate that. But of course we could go full diffuse and sharpen and have many more nested presets
Well, overshot a bit. Heres 7, work on most images, very varied, though mostly “unauthentic”, not sure if I could approach these more scientifically. I could probably whip out lots more “lookers” though spektrafilm_.zip (5.2 KB)

Yeah I also like what that one does to the photos.
My stupid inside jokes mostly, my general unseriousness makes it easy. The Skodachrome because I am Czech and we have our Škodas (simply clever), Velveetia I think speaks for itself; the two BW presets are a classic joke - started with the low contrast one, low contrast is like low calorie in a way, so low-cal, the other one has to be crispy. I thought there should be a preset based on the cinema stocks, so here is the cinema-kino meme, the golden one because it is based on Gold200 and because it kinda has that “golden” ages warm look. And the pastel one is just pastel.
Just a thought: Spektrafilm is a module with a LOT of sliders. How about we feed the docs with some words from the respective presets creators on how they crafted their presets? That might further help understand what can be done with a module as opposed to enabling a preset, being wowed by it but not understanding how the particuliar combination of sliders works?
I was thinking maybe a series of presets such as:
density → low
density → high
With low being +2EV film +1EV print, high being -2EV film -1EV print. Or something along these lines? I think these are reasonable creative starting points.
I like that your presets are creative, artistic and they establish a certain mood to the photo. They are not necessarily technical or accurate to the film stock or this is how this film “should look like”. Your presets are more to the let’s having fun side I am playing with Kino250D and KinoGolden and I like them a lot, I don’t know if I would have came up with these edits myself.
I am not sure I 100% know what you mean, but if it is what I think it is - the module presets in Darktable arent modular (hehe) as far as I know, they always override and include all of the spektrafilm module settings, so you would have to do these for all films etc…
Anyway, @piratenpanda, I had a thought about the default settings, do you think the module should 100% stick to the reference? I would personally vote for a different default couplers diffusion size/tail values, the default 20/200 make the images way too oversharpened imo, using 5/20 still gives you the color benefits without making the image look like its been through an oven
