Hi.
PhotoRAWMAX has bf8 files that call individual program modules, as if these modules were separate programs
Is there a way to call a specific module (e.g. Develop, Filters) from darktable using the 8bf file?
Hi.

Iâm not sure I understand. What is the exact workflow you are trying to achieve?
What workflow ?
DT âexportsâ tiff to PhotoRawMAX module e.g. Develop.
In Develop module I can do some corrections e.g. remove power lines with almost one click.
Develop module overwrites original tif with new content and returns this tiff to DT.
The same way as using DT and GIMP or External Editors and e.g. Afinity Photo.
Photo Raw Max is a commercial editor. If I understand correctly, the OP is looking for some kind of integration.
I guess, @DarekK , youâll have to check if Photo Raw Max (PRM) can be called as a command-line tool. If yes, you can try creating a Lua script to export the processed file from darktable, execute PRM, then import the result back to darktable, if desired.
I have ON1 photo raw and Affinity Photo and the external editor script works for both. Not sure if this will sufficeâŚI think if you have the ON1 plugin then you likely have the standalone version and so you can just leverage that a bit like a plug-in when you use the external editor lua script but that wouldnât be using those file types that you mentionedâŚ
I should have added: Do you have an example of how it works in other programs?
It seems that 8BF files are actually Photoshop plugins: 8BF File: How to open 8BF file (and what it is)
No, darktable doesnât support them, so youâll have to find another way.
That much was obvious. But without experience with PRM and (as it turns out) its Photoshop plugins, not much else is obvious.
Not to me, I had to search for the product name. I did not find anything for that + 8BF, but then itâs understandable, if those are Photoshop plugins. Sorry about only âcontributingâ noise.
I just thought that since Afiinity Photo is able to use 8bf files (and open the program as a plugin), Capture One can probably use 8bf files, so there is a way to open the program as a plugin from darktable, not as a standalone program.
Thank you.
What I meant was that it was obvious @DarekK wanted some kind of integration. The rest I had to figure out myself. Just like you, I tried searching for âPhotoRAW MAX 8bfâ and found out only that itâs actually ON1 PhotoRAW MAX (didnât know about it before) and then had to do a separate search for â8bf fileâ.
Thatâs what happens when a question is poorly asked and explained. Not your fault.
Forget about 8bf files.
I once tried to use the âExternal Editorsâ module and it didnât work as expected.
Now I tried (âyou / me stupid bleederâ, âplaying ignorantâ, âout of the blueâ - i donât know which idiom is better for this situation) it and it works.
You can call PhotoRaw_MAX and after confirming the changes to the photo the âoldâ tif is overwritten.
All you have to do is close PhotoRaw and close the command line window produced by darktable. Then the new tif is loaded into darktable
You got itâŚand on the topic of clarityâŚsorry I was so brief and didnât offer more of an explanation about what I was suggestingâŚ
