Something interesting here, but I don’t know if it means anything. The installer put the app shortcut in the usual system Start Menu folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\darktable
):
But when I go to that folder via the Start Menu, it’s not there:
However, searching for ‘darktable’ finds it locally:
This is patched Windows 11 Home 23H2, with no suspicious recent updates.
The reason I mention this is I’ve run across another app that does a similar thing, except it’s just a single shortcut (visually) missing from the Start Menu, not the whole folder. Also that app (Spyder X Pro) has ceased to auto-launch after boot, although it runs normally when manually fired up.
Has Microsoft changed something that’s impacting visibility / security?
Curiously if I move the darktable menu folder to my user start menu folder (C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
) it shows up in the Start menu as expected.
Permissions issue maybe?
