I’ve always had an affinity for deserts at sunset so I decided to aim for something which gives (me) a nostalgic feel. I used darktable 5.4 to lower both the overall contrast (with the tone equaliser module) and local contrast (with the diffuse or sharpen module). I used the colour calibration module to add red to the sand and to shift the sky towards a teal colour. Finally, I used colour balance RGB to lift the black point slightly to give that nostalgic look. I also used the retouch module to remove the sun spot in the clouds above the distant horizon.

Here’s my take, I used Silkypix DS Pro 12 to bring up shadows and I used the fine color controller to add warmth and color variation to the highlights. I then added bloom and softening in DT 5.4 and bumped up the saturation a bit.

Really liked the original dreamy edit. Tried something similar.

With that image, you can create a beautiful heart for your partner as a memento of that trip.

I always had difficulty editing photos shooting into sun and reflections. Too much contrast and reflections causes color fringes at times.
Shooting the opposite direction would’ve helped but it’s not always an option.
Anyway my attempt with DT5.4.

I had to really fight my urge to sharp-up / crisp-up / color-up / contrast-up, etc. in order to keep the misty look. But I did try to bring a bit more definition to a few places in this semi-chromatic image. Also had to deal with the flare (dust spot?) right above the end of the headlands in the distance.
