Demosaicing: Olympus M43 vs Nikon FX

Hey there,

I’ve recently switched from a Nikon FX camera (D610) to a much more portable Olympus (E-M5ii). I’ve noticed that I have to switch demosaic from PPG to AMaZE in order to ovaid certain effects in some photos. See also this post of mine, where demosaicing turned out to be the issue. Today I shot a completely different scene (modern office bulding) and noticed that AMaZE helped with moiré-like effects.

I was just wandering, is it something sensor specific that is asking for AMaZE? Or was I just blind and I simply haven’t noticed anything in the photos taken with my NIkon?

Hi
The nikon 610 has an antialiasing lowpass filter in front of its sensor, whereas the olympus E-M5ii does not have any.
This could explain that you get more moiré-like effect with the olympus
The amaze algorithm may handle that better than ppg
