Diesel and the rain

Shot with my Samsung S23 FE in pro (raw / DNG) mode. Processed in ART 1.23.

It’s a rainy / thundery afternoon here and this is Diesel as he sits atop my truck watching the rain from the dry safety of our garage. Might be interesting to see what can be done with this quick shot.

Backstory – My daughter lives in an apartment literally next door to our house. Under the wooden deck boards adjacent to the apartments we’ve seen several litters of kittens come and go over the years. This handsome fellow is from a litter of three last fall (one of which unfortunately met its demise on the highway 300 ft. up the street). He and his totally grey brother, Petrol, along with their (also grey) mother huddled under / on her patio last winter through 14F / -10C temperatures. We made a little shelter with a heat lamp, which was greatly appreciated:

She eventually earned their trust enough to get them neutered, vaccinated and chipped. They’re now nearly year-old outside cats who spend their days either roaming or (in the humid Louisiana heat) stretched out on the relatively cooler concrete in the shade of our garage. They’re growing to trust us and have become very sweet-natured, playful and affectionate little fellas. In fact we have to be vigilant they don’t run inside given half a chance.

A sidebar to the backstory (?) is their mother. She apparently had an accident – or maybe a run-in with a raccoon – and one of her eyes was injured beyond saving. When the boys went to the vet, she also went along for spaying, shots, chip and removal of the useless eye. She was again pregnant but it was early enough to be terminated. So, she was named Mono and is now an inside cat with my daughter (and her other two inside cats LOL).

Diesel is a great name, as it Petrol…but Mono is so fantastically simple.

3 different approaches - traditional profiled denoise and sharpen modules / diffuse & sharpen / contrast equalizer. This one (D&S) turned out best.

I’m intrigued by the half-black/half-white nose - would love to see a facing the camera shot. Oops - notice you gave us one with the heat lamp.
