Digikam hangs at start up

How long should I wait for Digikam to start up? It seems to be hanging up on the splash screen at the ‘Reading database’ part. I’ve waited upwards of 20 minutes. If I click on the splash screen, it goes opaque (I’m running it on Win 10) and crashes. A quick Google search tells me that this has been an issue before, although it seems to have affected Mac users. I’m not sure where to go from here. DK is very promising in terms of helping me manage my photos, but I can’t use it if it’s going to crash and be unresponsive. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can send my way.

So, I deleted the database and had it start over. So far, problem solved. We’ll see how it behaves moving forward.
