Thank you Jacques! Remind me to buy you a drink whenever there is a Dutch RT meetup for your great community efforts.

if you invite me (my family is of Flemish origin and spoke Dutchā€¦I didnā€™t understand anything when I was a childā€¦) I would be very happy, but no alcohol, no cheeseā€¦

Concise and to the point: what the doctor ordered and what the rest of us need.

It would be nice if there was also a link to the zipped Windows build.

It would also be nice if this thread remain very alive even after v.5.9 is released. All in all, it is about development versions, isnā€™t it?

And thereā€™s an unofficial RawPedia page explaining how to use all these dev versions. (Note: use it with caution, as it wonā€™t be updated regularly)

Done.

I agree with that, but availability to the stable version should be first and foremost once it arrives.

The ability to edit this topic, at least the original post, is one of the limiting factors for me. Iā€™m sure that @paperdigits or even one of the other admins can edit it when needed, but I do not want to burden them with something thatā€™s my initiative. Iā€™m not at all familiar how discourse works in that regard, maybe I can be given unrestricted time-restraints for this one specific topic.

If at all possible Iā€™ll keep this topic up-to-date; The links to the MacOS version and when the new stable version arrives Iā€™ll make sure it is clear that, in general, that one should be downloaded and installed.

Iā€™m also aware that Iā€™m not the only one that has a say in this.

Iā€™ve made it a wiki post, which should make it remain editable. And also editable by others.

Thanks for updating this @Jade_NL Jacques and co. Very much appreciated. I have adjusted the macOS packaging to allow an optional artifact with a generic name for the purpose of hyperlinking to the latest build, and adjusted the top post.

Thanks! Makes maintenance a bit easier

For consistency sake Iā€™m going to remove the version numbering from the direct links. People can check the OSX site link if they want/need more info.

Now packaging macOS Universal- native on Apple Silicon, generic x86 on 64-bit Intels, in one package.

On the intel side it is now built for macOS 11; this means there is room for optimization by advancing the compiler flags to include additional common instruction sets used in Apple hardware minimally supported by 11.

I download the latest version for MacOS.
macOS_11.0_Universal_5.8-3100-g0599a5e96
If I try to run it on my Mac Mini M1 it crashes with an error

/Applications/RawTherapee\ 2.app/Contents/MacOS/rawtherapee
dyld[5087]: Library not loaded: /Applications/RawTherapee.app/Contents/Frameworks/libomp.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/RawTherapee 2.app/Contents/MacOS/rawtherapee
Reason: tried: ā€˜/Applications/RawTherapee.app/Contents/Frameworks/libomp.dylibā€™ (mach-o file, but is an incompatible architecture (have ā€˜x86_64ā€™, need ā€˜arm64eā€™)), ā€˜/usr/lib/libomp.dylibā€™ (no such file)
zsh: abort /Applications/RawTherapee\ 2.app/Contents/MacOS/rawtherapee

If i download the X86 version it runs fine .
macOS_10.14_x86_64_5.8-3100-g0599a5e96

How did it get the 2 in the nameā€¦ perhaps more than one copy in the folder at a time. Fix that and test again please.

The 2 got in there because there has been another copy in the folder.
Removed it and now it works.
Thanks !

How ā€˜roughā€™ are the development versions? Iā€™m thinking it would be nice to support RawTherapee by testing out the dev version. But thatā€™s only feasible if theyā€™re reasonably stable. I donā€™t mind the occasional crash, so long as my data doesnā€™t get corrupted.

Alternatively, is it workable to move back and forth between the stable and dev versions - are the sidecars etc compatible between the two if I edit the same images on both?

The development versions are very stable. Donā€™t hesitate to use them!
The only downside is, they might contain some features that are being improved until the next release version.
