downgrade v3.9 to v3.8

I accidentally updated to v3.9 via the master OBS repository and I want to downgrade to v3.8. I’m on Ubuntu 20.04.

My plan is :

  • In Synaptic disable/remove the master OBS repository and uninstall v3.9
  • build v3.8 from source and run this until the relevant OBS repository has been updated to v3.8 from v3.6.
  • in my config folder restore data.db and library.db from the “pre 3.9” backup files. I assume they are there but I cannot check at the moment as I’m not at home.

Do you think I need to to anything else please ?

I don’t recall doing any edits since updating to v3.9 and I can redo these if necessary.

3.8 and 3.9 are virtually identical right now so you may be able to continue to use your existing databases. Backup first just in case I’m wrong though.

Which begs a question why bother…there should be very little difference…

Indeed. I probably would just to have the right version number displayed but there’s not a lot of point.

It’s a good point. My thinking was if I get myself back to v3.8 I will automatically get any maintenance releases.

But if you know how to build it now…will you ever be on the release cycle?? I think maybe 3.2.1 was the last time I was….
