dstyles for darktable

In the dstyles repository, there are a number of styles that look interesting to use as a starting point to edit photos. I have extracted all of the files in the zip download, and now have a few questions.

  1. How do you install these files, and where will they be found under darkroom?
  2. Do these work like “presets” in Lightroom? What I mean is, if I use a file and want to tweak it, can I save it as a new file and if so, where will the file be stored so I can back it up

Thank you

Note that most of those styles will be outdated (are based on the legacy workflow).
You may find that filmic and 3D LUT may give better results. You can download LUTs e.g. from Free LUTs – ON1

(And please read the manuals before asking – “darktable 3.4” in the darktable usermanual and https://elstoc.github.io/dtdocs/). And watch tutorials on youtube, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s41rmYxOQ0g&list=PLlYWvzmJQTrRq7JrYdD7k3-8-v-uHnhK_ And you can also search, e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=darktable+dtstyle+import)

Thank you. I 'll look that over and if I have any other questions, I’ll get back.

I have read the documentation and watched a number of videos. The videos all show the same way to access your LUT’s which I have done. Now I have a new question. The LUT’s files all end in .CUBE When I access them in the lut 3D module, and pick one, where the path of the file shows in the dialog box below the lut3D module, it always shows invalid file.
Can you help me with this?
Thank you

I don’t understand the issue. You’re unable to select a .cube file, or you can select it, and then get an error?
I have no problems with .cubes.
Selecting a .cube LUT:

The LUT applied (in Rec709 space):

Note: you have to set the LUT path in preferences! See https://darktable.gitlab.io/doc/en/color_group.html#lut3d (darktable 3.0), https://elstoc.github.io/dtdocs/module-reference/processing-modules/lut-3d/ and https://elstoc.github.io/dtdocs/preferences-settings/processing/ (3.2 and beyond (development version))

I can select it like your snapshot, “select lut file” but then get an error. The file name appears as you show in the" lut 3D" module, but at the end of the file, its says invalid file.
I have not tried the ON1 files yet. I have just downloaded those and will try them. I will get back to you either way.
Thank you

Could it be that you need gmic libraries? I remember it was needed for some kind of LUTs

All good, I think there was an issue as to the folder location.
Thank you
