DT 4.0.0.

In the settings, there is: processing > detect monochrome previews.

Does it do anything else than add the metadata flag?

Thanks

From the docs:

detect monochrome previews
Enable this option to analyse images during import and tag them with the darkroom|mode|monochrome tag if they are found to be monochrome. The analysis is based on the preview image embedded within the imported file. This makes for a more convenient workflow when working with monochrome images, but it slows down the import, so this setting is disabled by default.

That doesn’t say much. In what way does the workflow become more convenient?

You can select the auto applied tag in the collections module and apply some style or module preset for b&w images.

We don’t talk about workflow a lot because everyone is offended when it isn’t their workflow and then wants their workflow included in the official docs because its obviously the best.

Thanks. I think this (only adding the tag and using it later as you described) should be added to the docs, as the current description is quite vague.

We don’t provide much detail on purpose, so that when something shifts with tagging or workflow, we don’t have to track down a whole bunch of random places that repeat some bit of information.

But some rewording about using the tag is possibly a good idea.
