I have DT 4.0.0 (on linux) and from time to time it crashes and when I start it again, there is no edit on the photos I made.
For example, I edited 10 photos, it crashes on 11th and when I start it back, there is no edit on those 10 photos.
If edits are saved in xmp file, why it’s not showing?

Maybe the data is not saved to the database. XMP files are not read after import. You can remove (not delete) the images and reimport to re-read the XMP files, or enable look for updated xmp files on startup: darktable 4.0 user manual - storage
However, we should look into those crashes and eliminate them. On my machine, darktable (even the WIP development version) is pretty stable.
Follow Kofa’s advice. When I have the rare DT crash my edits on previous images are saved and usually all the steps on the current image except the module that caused the crash. So something must be preventing your edits not being saved to the database.
