I have a convoluted situation with tags, probably because keywords got out of control in my LightRoom days. As part of clearing up the mess, I would like to understand why I am getting the above message when creating a collection based on tags. Clearly there are images in what I think is the collection, as defined by the tag I have entered under ‘collections’.
Here is an example:
I have a ‘root’ level tag named ‘People’ (not italicised). Below this there are tags named ‘Friends’ and ‘Friends-2’; the latter name is italicised, so I assume it is a category. ‘Friends’ has many tags within it. None are italicised. ‘Friends-2’ has a much smaller number of tags within it; again, none are italicised. Every tag within ‘Friends-2’ occurs within ‘Friends’, but the identically named tags in ‘Friends’ and ‘Friends-2’ are not, in every instance, attached to the same number of, or even the same images.
When I choose a tag name which occurs in both ‘Friends’ and ‘Friends-2’ and enter just ‘tag-name’ rather than ‘People’|‘Friends’|‘tag-name’ or ‘People’|‘Friends-2’|‘tag-name’ in the collections area then I get 2 types of results that I cannot explain:

With some tags the above warning message about there being no images in the collection is displayed, even though the tag hierarchy is shown, along with the number of images associated with the tag. I can click on part of this hierarchy to view the images. This happens whether or not I use the wild card symbol with the tag-name.

With other tag names images are shown, but only from one of ‘Friends’ or ‘Friends-2’ where these have different numbers of images and different images for the same tag-name. There is no consistency between whether images from ‘Friends’ or ‘Friends-2’ are shown.
Furthermore it is not clear what effect ‘Friends-2’ being a ‘category’ has: names shown in the ‘attached tags section’ on the right of the display are italicised when applicable but are not shown italicised under the ‘collections’ heading on the left side of the display. This is confusing. It also begs the question, to me, of how ‘category’ tags should be assigned and what they do.
Could I get some advice, please?
