Hi there,
when I edit my raw photos I often take some screenshots. However I would like to compare my edition with the embedded JPEG. Can I take screenshot of the embedded JPEG?
Thank you
I am not aware of a way to do this from darktable (maybe others do). You can extract the jpg from the RAW file using exiftools, then import that jpg into darktable.
There is a Lua script called multi_os in the examples section. When started it creates a button in the “actions on selection” module in the lighttable view to extract and import the embedded jpeg. Under the hood it uses exiftool, as well.
This is the right way, and it should work well in lighttable. But since the dimensions will differ, darkroom can’t nicely display shapshots of the preview on top of the raw. I guess the snapshot module would need an option to scale the snapshot, unless there’s another workaround.
With my Nikon cameras the extracted jpeg has almost the same dimensions as the raw. I do not know about other cameras.
There’s a feature request open if you want to add your voice:
My way of doing this is to create a duplicate in lighttable and discard the history stack. While you cannot apply crop or rotations, it’s the best way I know of so far - it at least allows you to compare photos back to back by scrolling
